Although the Kings of Leon have achieved success only recently in the United States, they have been world-renowned since their forming in 1999. The band is comprised of three brothers and one cousin: Caleb Followill, Nathan Followill and Jared Followill with their cousin Matthew Followill. The Kings of Leon first reached stardom in the United Kingdom, with nine top singles in 2008. Once the album, Only by the Night was released did the band finally find success in the United States. Since then, Only by the Night was their first ever platinum-selling album in the U.S., was the best selling album in Australia of 2008, certified 8x Platinum and achieved 5x Platinum certification in the United Kingdom.

At twenty years of age, Taylor Swift has been called ‚one of pop’s finest songwriters‚ by The New York Times. Her fame began merely four years ago with the release of her first, self-titled, album. Since then, Fearless and Taylor Swift have sold a combined four million copies, making her the best-selling musician of the year in 2008. She more than deserves for album of the year for Fearless, and it is amazing to think she has her entire life ahead of her.

Beyonce

Although Beyonce was nominated for 10 Grammy Award nominations this year and won six of them, the award for Song of the Year should have went to‚ Use Somebody‚ by the Kings of Leon. To me, whoever wins the Record of the Year award should automatically win the song of the year award. Even though Beyonce is one of the greatest female musicians the world has even seen, the Kings of Leon undoubtedly had the Song of the Year in my eyes.
